The red-footed falcon has been chosen by SOS/BirdLife Slovakia as Bird of the Year 2024 to raise awareness about the importance of its protection. These falcons travel over 7,000 kilometers from Africa to their breeding grounds—facing many dangers along the way.
After years of targeted work on pasture restoration in areas of European significance, we have faced many smaller and larger challenges. Overcoming them was often not easy. However, our motivation has always been and remains the springtime.
During 12.-13.-3. the visit of the project monitor and the representative of the European Commission took place for the purpose of checking the LIFE Danube Floodplains project.

In the past, the Vojčianske side arm was part of the so-called of the inland Danube delta – a system of free-flowing river branches. After the construction of the Gabčíkovo Water Works, most of the water was diverted to the hydroelectric power plant through the supply channel, which resulted in cutting off the entire branch system from the Danube.
In addition to the design of revitalisation measures, the preparatory phase of the LIFE WILDisland project also included scanning of the project areas using LiDAR technology, which works on the principle of transmitting light pulses.
On 6th of February 2024 BROZ organized a final conference of the LIFE Danube Floodplains project in the Congress Centre Divoká Voda, under the title We Restore the Heart of the Danube Floodplains.
In collaboration with farmer Arnold Dócs, local enthusiasts, and tremendous support from OZ SAVE NATURE, we helped remove this picturesque pasture from Invasive alien plant species, as well as shrubs and dense woody vegetation.
We had the honor of participating in a roundtable discussion with European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, and fellow nature conservation NGOs at the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia.
Last year, we managed to successfully collect €100,000 to save a wetlands, launch several projects, release sturgeons into the Danube, restore grazing in several locations and even change the name, logo and visual identity.
