In the last weekend of February we organized the 3rd workshop dedicated to pollard willow managent at SEV Dropie. The willows were traditionally coppiced for wood or crafts and coppicing is necessary for the tree´s wellbeing. The willow acts as a refuge for a number of insect species and privides shelter for roosting bats and owls.
We already have a stable gropu of volunteers who like to return to SPA Ostrovné Lúky year after year to do willow coppicing in the area. This year we had 25 volunteers with international attendance from Spain, Ireland and France. The weather and atmosphere was great and we managed to coppice more than 10 willows.
