The first step for the successful implementation of the project in the Slovak region was the preparation of a hydrological study. From the results of the study, after several expert consultations, the designers elaborated the proposed measures in the form of technical documentation.
We are planning to reconnect the two original side arms at the Sap project site. MR1 with a length of approximately 1.2 km and an average bed width of 10 m and MR2 with a length of approximately 0.65 km and an average bed width of 14 m, with an outlet to the main Medvedovské side arm. The main objectives of these measures are to restore the natural river processes, the flow capacity of the disconnected arms, to increase the flow dynamics, to strengthen the hydrological connection between the main channel of the Danube and the river arm system and to improve the lateral connection between the flow and the inundation.

The series of proposed measures will contribute to increasing the flow in the main channel of Medvedovske side arm, promoting the restoration of the gravel bed and morphological features in the channel such as fords, riffles, perpendicular banks, gravel benches and wild islands. This will gradually create favourable conditions for river biodiversity and rheophilic fish species, such as spawning grounds, as well as suitable refuges and biocorridors. The restoration of the lateral connection will improve not only the interaction of water with the Danube riverbed, but also the interaction of surface water and groundwater.
