PROJEKT: Restoration and management of Danube floodplain habitats
Výsadba stromu

Planting, after planting care and elimination of invasives

Also this year, as part of the LIFE Danube Floodplains project, we are dedicated to restoration of floodplain forests by optimizing their species composition. This includes planting of native tree species, after-planting care and removal of invasive species, specifically in this case the so called tree of heaven (Ailanthus altissima).

Preparation of the locality before planting, digging of pits for seedlings

At the beginning of this year, we planted a total of 4 850 seedlings in the project areas in Vojka nad Dunajom and on Veľkolelské Island (PLA Dunajské luhy). The species numbers were planned as follows: 100 pieces of European crab apple (Malus sylvestris), 200 pieces of European wild pear (Pyrus pyraster), 300 pieces of bird cherry (Prunus padus), 100 pieces of European white elm (Ulmus laevis), 100 pieces of common ash (Fraxinus excelsior), 500 pieces of pedunculate oak (Quercus robur), 600 pieces of white willow (Salix alba), 1350 pieces of white poplar (Populus alba), 1600 pieces of black poplar (Populus nigra). The stands will then be treated throughout the year by cutting of weeds on the planted areas, removing climbing plants from the planted trees and applying a paint against the biting of pendulate oak seedlings by wild animals in unfenced planting areas.
