In May, we initiated a simulated flood in the Danube’s branch system, following the current Operational Rules for the Gabčíkovo dam. However, this simulated flood is not what we are advocating for in our petition.
In the petition, we are calling for a higher water flow and a simplification of the administrative process for implementing floods. Our aim is to allow simulated floods in the Danube floodplain forests to follow the natural fluctuations of the Danube’s water levels, making the process as natural as possible.
The flow rate of 90 m³/s lasted for 1.5 days.
The flow rate of 80 m³/s lasted for only 3.5 days.
Only during flows of 80–90 m³/s did the water breach the banks.
The flow rate of 60 m³/s lasted for three weeks.
You can compare the course of the flood at a flow of 60 m³/s and a maximum of 90 m³/s in the comparison images and photo gallery below.
