{"id":35000,"date":"2024-07-17T13:40:06","date_gmt":"2024-07-17T11:40:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/broz.sk\/ground-squirrel-trapping-at-the-bratislava-airport-is-underway\/"},"modified":"2024-11-05T11:18:41","modified_gmt":"2024-11-05T10:18:41","slug":"ground-squirrel-trapping-at-the-bratislava-airport-is-underway","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/broz.sk\/en\/ground-squirrel-trapping-at-the-bratislava-airport-is-underway\/","title":{"rendered":"Ground squirrel trapping at the Bratislava Airport is underway."},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=&#8221;&#8221;]\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we do every year, in the spring and summer, our ground squirrel team captures ground squirrels at sites with stable populations and transports them to genetically poor or newly established sites.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This morning, 65 ground squirrels were captured and are currently being transported to sites in the White Carpathians and Podunajsko region.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was interesting to watch our colleagues, led by Ervin, trapping the ground squirrels in a coordinated, fast and sensitive manner. They cut apples, &#8220;loaded&#8221; the live traps, harvested them and quickly transported the captured animals to the shelter.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Bratislava airport has the largest European ground squirrel population in Slovakia, estimated at up to 15,000 individuals, so the animals can safely be used to supplement and strengthen populations elsewhere.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the next few days, translocation will also take place on the Mur\u00e1nsk\u00e1 plain, from where they will go to more genetically related locations in central Slovakia.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are looking forward to these project activities.
