The program was literally full. On Tuesday, we started our mission early in the morning on the island of H\u00e1ros in Budapest, where representatives of the Hungarian partner of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dunaipoly.hu\/en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Danube-Ipoly National Park<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> project presented their implemented activities aimed at the restoration of floodplain forests. It involved growing of eed material of native tree species, planting of forest stands, protecting seedlings from being bitten by animals with the help of nature-friendly paint, and fighting invasive species.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32972&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][vc_column_text]\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Floodplains forest on H\u00e1ros Island<\/span><\/em><\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After lunch, we moved to the Slovak part of the project area, first to the local cooperative in Vrbov\u00e1 nad V\u00e1hom, where we presented the good cooperation, thanks to which grazing was restored on the nearby <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/broz.sk\/en\/apalsky-ostrov-island-forest-reserve-at-the-confluence-of-rivers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ap\u00e1l Island<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. We checked the condition of the meadows directly in the field, which were mulched and mowed at the beginning of the project, later cleared of non-native trees and prepared for grazing. In the summer of 2023, fences, a well and watering holes were placed here, and after the first season of cow grazing, the area looks unrecognizable from the state before the project.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32967&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][vc_column_text]\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Grazed meadows of the Ap\u00e1l Island<\/span><\/em><\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Next, a rich program awaited us on Ve\u013ekol\u00e9lsky Island. Here we also presented the results of grazing on several areas, pollarding of head willows, as well as a channel and wetlands restoration, which significantly contributed to the improvement of the island&#8217;s water regime, e.g. for amphibians. In Ve\u013eky L\u00e9l, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/broz.sk\/en\/new-information-boards-along-the-danube\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7 information boards<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were installed as a result of the project. Already in the dark, with only the light of our mobile phones, we looked from the pontoon at the Ve\u013ekol\u00e9lske side arm and debated about our previous conservation successes. Then we had the opportunity to show off the exhibition about life in the Danube floodplains, located in a renovated historical granary, and we offered a rare visit with cheeses from the home production of a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ekofarma.sk\/en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">local farm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;32962&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221;][vc_column_text]\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the Danube river bank<\/span><\/em><\/p>\r\n[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second day began with presentations of activities at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/web.nlcsk.org\/home-en\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Forestry Center<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in Gab\u010d\u00edkovo, where a unique fully automated foil plant was built as a result of the project, in which the NLC partner grows seedlings of domestic tree species typical for floodplain areas. We also saw the results of the introduction of grazing and pollarding of willows at the Bod\u00edky location. We also presented the supporting activities of the project aimed at restoring the water regime of the Danube river branches \u2013 we visited <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/broz.sk\/en\/preparatory-works-for-the-restoration-of-the-river-branch-in-kralovska-luka\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kr\u00e1\u013eovsk\u00e1 l\u00faka<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where restoration work is still ongoing and the already restored <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/broz.sk\/en\/restoration-of-the-lower-vojcianske-side-arm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lower Voj\u010dianske side arm<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
